THE SWINGETTES are a four-part harmony a cappella group. Thee current line up consists of Paula Dennis (lead), Linda Mackintosh (bass), Mary Ballantyne (baritone) and Linda Carson (tenor). In their early days as a barbershop quartet, they won the 1995 Sweet Adelines UK Barbershop Championships. This allowed them to compete in international competition in New Orleans singing to 10,000 in the Louisiana Superdome (their largest audience to date!). THE SWINGETTES have now diversified in style and harmonise anything from the swing rhythms of the Andrews Sisters through 50's doop-wop to pop classics from ABBA, Cher and the Weather Girls. Dressed to thrill in sequins and diamante, The Swingettes add sparkle and glamour to any occasion and their varied repertoire appeals to all musical tastes. Popular as after dinner entertainment or as a cabaret act, The Swingettes have performed at corporate events, private parties, weddings and Barmitzvas and have also appeared in cabaret at the Queen's Hall, Edinburgh and in the famous Spiegel Tent during the Edinburgh Book Festival.
They have also performed in theatres around the country with well known Edinburgh swing singer Craig McMurdo and his seven piece band "That Swing Thang". Described as "four fine backing singers" by The Scotsman, the girls add an extra dimension and layer of harmonies to popular jump jive numbers and the easy listening hits of Burt Bacharach, Buddy Holly, Elvis and Andy Williams. They have also sung with the Edinburgh jazz singer Edith Budge at a number of charity events.
